Bismillah
You know in life that we always (either consciously or not) put our self first and foremost. Even when we do good for others, we do it because of our beliefs because not doing it would make us regret it. In the end, it's because of 'me' more than because of 'others'. But why is it when we receive advise we say that others are judging us and why do we not focus on ourselves instead.
It is better for us, in any situation, to look closer at ourselves before we try to judge others. It is better for us not to be angry at others but to know why that person did what he/she did to you. In any situation, it is better if we can learn something from it rather than try to console ourselves by saying 'I do not deserve this hardship'.
In everything, I believe, God is trying to show us something about ourselves that we do not notice. So when someone brushes me off, or when someone disappoints, I might get sad/angry but then I give more time for me to consider why I feel that way and whether these feelings are justified. May God give us His Guidance. So in everything, let's look in ourselves first. When receiving an advise ask yourself why did you get that advise (people don't advise you unless they think something is not right. Who cares whether they think they are better or not. That is not for you to judge anyway.)
There are so many people who can't accept advises from others because they don't realize what a good thing it is to receive an advise (kind of like taking medicine. We don't like the taste, but we are thankful that it got us better).
I'm glad in life I have friends who have no problem advising me and telling me to go straight when I go astray.
When i receive advises, I usually don't accept them straight away. I take them, keep them in my heart and mind and when I'm alone I dissect the advise. I ask myself, why did the person say that, what is the basis, have I done something wrong, how I can improve, is it a big problem, and other such questions.
It's not a matter of accepting or not but a matter of taking it into consideration without being to critical about the issue and to not take it too personally. Take it as a question and question yourself more. May from this God gives us the strength to improve ourselves.
And what better a mirror of the heart than a good friend with your best interest at heart.
Alhamdullilah
