Big job, small job

Bismillah

My dad told me not to go for small companies but I keep wondering if I have the luxury to be so picky.
Is it alright for me to try out a small company for a year or so and move on once I get better offers?

I have been lazy the entire day and my swollen gum is still painful. I guess the medicine isn't working as well as I'd like to.

I don't know what to do and I wish I could just do whatever I want.

Sigh.

Alhamdulillah

  1. Searching for a job is it? I could understand where your father is going. For starters, big companies are better, as they are more willing to train and more colleagues to help you be comfortable.

    Once you have three or four years experience, you have more self-confidence in decisions you will make pertaining your career, at that time you are more suitable for smaller companies as you have the experience thus able to contribute more in its building and growth.

    But regarding being picky or not...That's pretty much up to you. :) There are some jobs that may not seem rationally stable, but some are willing to sacrifice stableness for work satisfaction. Like painters, writer, commission-based jobs.

    Hope this helps?

  2. Yeah. Actually waiting for responses atm. I got one respond but from small electrical company. My dad's kind of put off by small companies. I was thinking i might as well just go since i have no job right now anyways.

    Thanks for the word of advice. I for one look into 'work environment' as top priority. As in safety, transport, place to pray, culture, etc.

    For me everything else comes after this. :P

  3. Yes, especially place to pray and employer's tolerance for giving us time to pray. My friend once had to decline a job offer because during interview, the employer asked is she can postponed praying until off-working hours -_-;

    Though, I understand your predicament :(. In Sabah, not much work for fresh starters. Most jobs they asked for those with experienced or technical skills. My brother got an offer from Sabah ( he had 5 years experience), but he had to decline since he love his current workplace. The one who recruited him was a friend of his, and he told him ( and the family) about it.
